- The entrance was on Church Drive site with the rear of the buildings towards Central Drive. In 1988 when the station was moved from Byron Street to Portland road some of the officers returned to the old council yard site and found the room where the horse tack was kept complete and hangers for uniform still there.

- At this time the fire station was situated down a narrow yard. This required the pump to have its wheels removed and replaced as the entrance was not wide enough for the unmodified engine. The fire service shared this address with the local library |
